Jason Rubin, the president of THQ, sounded reasonably positive on Twitter about potentially developing Linux games.
Between this and Steam on Linux, Linux gamers are getting a couple of great Christmas presents. Let’s hope that he actually decides to go through with it.
I’m hopeful that the Windows 8 debacle has opened more eyes than just the ones at Valve. Game developers cannot afford to put all their eggs in the Windows basket. Many people are moving beyond Windows for their computing needs, and game developers need to be there to profit from that or risk losing customers over time. Microsoft cannot guarantee a captive audience the way that they did in previous decades.
Thankfully, we’re seeing a lot of Android and iOS game development going on. Hopefully, Linux will soon be part of every game developer’s decision making.
The more games that come out for Linux, the better. And I hope we quickly reach the tipping point for that.
